meet Cate…
Cate is the founder of Friendly Fox Design Ltd., where she pioneers interactive nature trails and exhibits using augmented reality (AR) to make learning about the environment more accessible and immersive. Her work bridges storytelling, design and technology to bring landscapes alive with animations, videos and hidden narratives — all right where they’re most meaningful.
She’s passionate about making the countryside inclusive for everyone, including those with neurodiversity, visual impairments and younger audiences. Through character-led outdoor adventures that align with the school curriculum, Cate sparks curiosity and connection in children while embedding environmental education. This can really help with nature-connectedness.
With a background in education and a part-time academic role at the University of Brighton, Cate specialises in sustainable design, user experience (UX) and life cycle thinking. She applies this deep systems approach to her research and community collaboration — ensuring each trail or exhibit supports both people and the planet.
